Swift was incorporated in July 1991 by three entrepreneurs with a passion for cars, in Billinge, Lancashire. They saw a gap in the market for a rental company with superior customer service values, based on prestige marques, providing Credit Hire.
In 1995 Swift moved to Knutsford, Cheshire, where it continued to grow from strength to strength. 1999 saw the case of Dimond v. Lovell, which changed the way in which Credit Hire worked, with changes to the hire agreements being made. Swift came through this difficult time within the industry.
As the business continued to grow, the decision was made in 2001 for the original shareholders to withdraw from the day to day running of the business and to hand this over to the Executive Management team. 2001 also saw the introduction of Protocol agreements, which gave insurers agreed discounted rates in order to expedite the process of paying for the hire vehicles. With the continued growth of the company, in 2002 Swift Scotland was launched, offering Credit Hire across Scotland. With the expansion of the company progressing so rapidly, Swift moved to new larger premises in Northwich, Cheshire, in 2004, from which they continue to operate.
Swift was acquired by the Helphire Group plc in 2005 and is now well integrated into the group. This was great news for all of Swift's partners with an expansion of our fleet and our range of products and services. The company continues to go from strength to strength with its rapid growth.
